MoLock FAQ — the privacy lock for Windows

Everything you might ask about protecting your PC with MoLock — locking, catching intruders on camera, controlling your PC from Telegram, and setup. Can't find your answer? Message us on WhatsApp or Facebook and we'll get back to you.

General

What is MoLock?

MoLock is free screen lock software — a privacy lock for Windows 10/11. It covers your PC with a stylish lock screen while you're away, and you unlock it by simply typing your password anywhere. If anyone comes near the locked PC, their photo reaches your Telegram within a second; anyone who tries a wrong password gets photographed and recorded; and you can control your whole PC from your own private Telegram bot.

Is MoLock free?

Yes, completely free. No subscription, no paid tier, no locked features.

Which Windows versions does it support?

Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit.

Is it available in Arabic?

Yes — the whole interface is in Arabic and English. When the app is in Arabic, the widgets are fully Arabic too: prayer times, Hijri date, weather and more.

Does it replace my Windows password or BitLocker?

No — it complements them. Keep your Windows password on and turn on BitLocker or Device Encryption so your files stay protected even if the drive is removed. MoLock adds an everyday layer on top: fast, smart locking, evidence of every attempt, and control from your phone.

Can I use it for my kids?

MoLock is a privacy lock, not a parental-control app. It keeps kids out of your session while you're away. For the kids themselves, the best option is their own child account through Windows family settings.

What's new in 2.5?

Camera motion detection while locked: a photo on Telegram in about a second, with buttons for another photo, a video or a siren. Tamper alerts with a photo when someone tries to close or pause MoLock or open Settings with a wrong password, or ends it from Task Manager. Updating the app from your bot with /update — even while locked. A setup wizard that links your bot and sends you a command guide, and 3 style profiles: Simple, Professional and Dynamic. Plus 5 new themes, richer widgets and redesigned, fully Arabic Settings.

How do I contact the developer?

On WhatsApp at wa.me/201066688896, Facebook at fb.com/mafiaidola, or Messenger at m.me/mafiaidola. You can also send a problem or suggestion from inside the app via "Send feedback" — the reply arrives on your PC.

Security & locking

How do I unlock? I can't find a password box!

That's on purpose. There's no box and no button: just type your password at any moment on the lock screen and it opens. A subtle pulse shows you're typing, without ever revealing the length.

I forgot my password. What now?

You have several ways back in: the recovery code from setup, a one-time code from an authenticator app (like Google Authenticator) if enabled, or a trusted USB key or Bluetooth device. From your Telegram bot you can send /resetpassword even while the PC is locked. If none of that is available, "MoLock Fix" closes the app and returns the PC to normal.

Could I get locked out of my own PC for good?

MoLock is designed so that doesn't happen: there's a recovery code, an emergency shortcut you configure yourself, /resetpassword from Telegram, and the MoLock Fix tool. Your mouse and keyboard never freeze, even if Windows locks on top. After several wrong attempts there's only a short cooldown, not a permanent lockout.

What is the duress password?

A second password for situations where you're forced to unlock. Type it and the PC opens completely normally, so the other person thinks it worked — while MoLock silently sends an alert and a photo to your Telegram and logs it.

Can someone kill MoLock from Task Manager?

While locked, Task Manager itself is blocked. If someone ends it while unlocked, a watchdog brings it back, there's an optional guard service, and it starts with Windows. You can also require your password to exit. When you close it from the tray with your password, it stays closed the way you chose.

What happens if someone tries to close MoLock or end it from Task Manager?

You get a tamper alert on Telegram with a photo of whoever tried. It fires on a wrong password when someone tries to close MoLock, pause it or open Settings, and when MoLock (or its guardian) is ended from Task Manager. After 3 wrong tries the screen locks, and if MoLock was locked when it was ended, it comes back locked. Signing out, updates and crashes never count as tampering. Tamper alerts are on by default; you can switch them in /settings.

Task Manager is disabled — is that normal?

MoLock blocks Task Manager, system keys and the Ctrl+Alt+Del options only while locked, and always restores them when you unlock. If Task Manager ever stays disabled for any reason, run MoLock Fix and it will repair it.

How is my password stored?

Your password is stored scrambled — never as plain text, and never sent to us. All your settings get bank-grade encryption on your own PC, tied to your Windows account.

How do I lock my computer screen automatically when I walk away?

MoLock locks your screen by itself after an idle time you choose (with an optional countdown warning), when your paired Bluetooth phone walks away, when you pull out your trusted USB key, on a schedule, with a hotkey, or from Telegram with /lock or /timer 5. On a trusted Wi-Fi network such as home, you can have auto-lock stay off while you're connected.

How can I see who used my PC while I was away?

Turn on MoLock's evidence features: every wrong-password attempt is captured with photos and a video with sound and sent to your Telegram. Camera motion detection (on by default) sends you a photo within about a second if anyone comes near the locked PC — even without touching it — or touches the mouse or keyboard. You can record evidence on every unlock too. It's all kept in the evidence timeline, alongside the activity log and statistics.

How do I take a photo of someone trying to unlock my PC?

Once evidence is on, every wrong password becomes a full "incident": a photo burst, a short clip with sound, an optional lock-screen screenshot and the location as a map pin — all sent to your Telegram as one album. The camera warms up the moment the screen locks, so the first photo is instant, and you can ask for a photo any time with /photo.

Will motion detection send me alerts all night because of lights?

No. Lighting changes — a lamp switching on or off, sunlight through the window — don't trigger it; only real movement in front of the camera does. You can set the sensitivity from 1 to 10 and the minimum time between alerts, or switch motion detection off in /settings. With motion detection off, the camera switches off again a few minutes after locking, so the webcam light doesn't stay on.

Telegram & remote control

How do I control my PC from my phone?

Through Telegram: once your private bot is linked, send /menu for a tidy control panel covering locking, camera and evidence, screen and control, device status, and power. There are direct commands too, like /lock, /screenshot, /photo and /shutdown 10. See all commands.

Do I need Telegram?

No. Locking works without Telegram, and evidence is kept on your PC in the evidence timeline. Telegram adds alerts on your phone and remote control.

How long does the Telegram bot take to set up?

About two minutes, and the setup wizard walks you through it: create a bot with @BotFather, paste its token into the wizard (it checks it for you), press Start in your bot and confirm it's you. A test message and a full guide with commands and examples follow — bring it back any time with /guide, or see every command with /help. Step-by-step guide.

Is my bot private? Can anyone else use it?

The bot is yours alone, and MoLock only answers your linked chat. Anyone else who messages it can't do anything. The connection is direct between your PC and Telegram — the developer has no access to it.

Does /remote work from anywhere over the internet?

/remote 30 creates a secure, private web link to view and control the screen from a browser on the same network, and it stops by itself when time is up (or use /remote off). From anywhere, the rest of the bot works as usual — /screenshot, /click, /keys and more.

Can I control my PC while MoLock is closed?

Yes — a tiny background bot keeps running, so you can open MoLock, open it and lock, reset your password, check status, or stop the bot.

If the PC is offline during an attempt, is the evidence lost?

No. It's kept on the PC and sent automatically as soon as the connection is back, as one album.

Privacy & data

What does MoLock send to the developer?

With "Send device stats" on: device name, Windows version, CPU/RAM/GPU model, screen sizes, disk, MoLock's own CPU/RAM use, the number of locks and wrong attempts in the last 24 hours, and the app version and language. With it off: just the app version, language and update channel. Never files, screen contents, keystrokes or your Windows user name. Setup shows you exactly this list — what's sent and what never is — with a switch to turn it off. Full details in the privacy policy.

Is MoLock spyware? Can the developer see my camera?

No. Photos and videos go only to your own Telegram bot or stay on your PC — the developer never receives them and has no way to see them. The camera is only used while the PC is locked, for motion detection and the evidence features you control, or when you ask your own bot. Motion detection looks at the picture on your PC only; nothing is uploaded except the alert photo, which goes to your own bot.

Can I turn off device stats?

Yes — switch off "Send device stats" right in the setup wizard, or any time later in Settings → About. After that only the app version, language and update channel are sent, so updates and announcements can still reach you.

Are the in-app announcements safe?

Every announcement is digitally signed — the app refuses anything that isn't from us, so no one can push you a fake. They never appear while the PC is locked or over a full-screen app.

Install & updates

Do I need admin rights?

No. MoLock runs without admin rights and without installing anything extra. Only the optional guard service asks for administrator approval if you choose to enable it.

How do I install it?

Download the zip (about 70 MB), extract it and run MoLock.exe. The setup wizard walks you through everything: pick a style — Simple, Professional or Dynamic — with a live preview, and link your own Telegram bot. You can change any of it later.

Windows says "Windows protected your PC". What should I do?

That's the SmartScreen warning Windows shows for newer apps it hasn't seen widely yet. Click "More info", then "Run anyway". Always download MoLock from the official website only.

Does it need an internet connection?

Locking and unlocking work offline. The internet is only needed for Telegram and alerts, updates, and some widgets like weather and currency rates. If you go offline, evidence waits and is sent once you're back.

How do updates work?

They download in the background, are checked to be genuine and digitally signed by us, and install at a quiet moment — never while the PC is locked. MoLock backs up first and rolls back on any problem; your password, settings and evidence are never touched, and you're told when it updates or if an update fails. New in 2.5: update yourself from the bot with /update — see what's new and the size, follow the download, and even while locked choose to install now (it locks again right away) or after you unlock. You can turn off automatic updates in Settings → About (critical releases may still install).

How do I uninstall it, and what is MoLock Fix?

In Settings, under Reset & uninstall, click "Uninstall MoLock…" — it stops the guard service, removes startup entries, lets you keep or remove your data, and cleans up downloaded updates. MoLock Fix (in the MoLock folder) is a repair tool: it closes MoLock, fixes Task Manager and a stuck mouse, and can remove everything MoLock added — showing you exactly what it will delete first and keeping a log of what it did.

Troubleshooting

Does it drain the battery or use a lot of CPU?

No — MoLock is light while it runs in the background. Animated themes only run while the screen is locked. To save even more, pick a calmer theme or have it turn the screen off when locked.

I have several monitors — does it cover all of them?

Yes, the lock screen covers every connected monitor.

Can I change how the lock screen looks?

Of course: there are 35 animated themes (MoLock Signature, hacker, Matrix, Sakura and more), 33+ widgets, and backgrounds from your blurred desktop, an image, a video or a slideshow. See the themes.

Auto-lock interrupts my movies and games

Turn on "pause on full-screen apps", or pause auto-lock from the tray or with /pause 2h on Telegram — anywhere from 5 minutes up to 7 days, and it resumes on its own.

Evidence photos aren't being captured — why?

Usually Windows is blocking apps from the camera or microphone. Open Windows privacy settings and allow camera and microphone access for desktop apps. If the camera is busy in another app, MoLock falls back to silent video or audio only.
